Reflections

I’ve been away on holiday for a good portion of this month, so not much stitching to share with you, but we had quite an interesting holiday.

First things first though – at the start of the month (and before we went away), the latest challenge of the Fifteen by Fifteen group was published. This month the challenge had the title ‘Horizon’ and for my offering I decided to create a landscape of receding hills with interest and detail added by the inclusion of trees on the horizon of each set of hills. The full details of the release can be seen at https://fifteenquilts.com/

  This is my Horizon quilt.

Now for the holiday news. We spent three weeks travelling from New York to Chicago (and back again) through the rural countryside bordering the Great Lakes. I have tons of photos, but never fear, I won’t bore you too much with them. Here are a few that you may like:

These may not be the usual views you might expect, but I love the reflections all around in the cities, and I’m hoping that these may be the inspiration for future stitching projects.

Now to get my head out of the clouds and concentrating on stitching again. Fingers crossed that I have a bit more of that to show you next time!

Joan

It’s been a while

Well, I know you are used to seeing posts from Joan rather than me, but I’ve just found the istructions Joan wrote out for me last month so I would be able to do a blog post.  I had not been doing posts for such a long time that I had completely forgotton how to go about it.

Anyway, with the instructions on my desk, I’ve managed to get this far.

In April, my husband, two dogs and I went down to Essex, never having been to that part of the country, we were excited by the prospect.  I had booked a two day workshop with Alexandra Waylett, a wonderful tutor working from her home studio who teaches a really varied selection of workshops.  Mine was a machine embroidery course to complete (hopefully) a triptych, using flowers as a theme.

I chose echinacea and the flowers you see below grow in our garden.

The photo on the left is my rough sketch and the one on the right is a start of interpreting my sketch. Still a lot to do and I must admit that work has stalled a little but I hope to get back to it.

Well, that’s it for now, hope to be back soon.
